2006 Year-end Review

Posted 27 December 2006, 15:04 by A.L.
Currently: watching Grey's Anatomy [marathon]

Got this from Sam’s blog:

1. What things did you do in 2006 that you’d never done before?
— Entrusted my life to people whom I barely knew. It was the scariest, yet most fulfilling experience I’ve had—to put so much trust on mere acquaintances, who by the end of the 5 days, emerged as people I’d like call “friends”. [Of course I’m talking about ASLA XD] Oh, and I was away from home for the longest time [5 days, in fact]. The longest time I had spent away from my family was when I went on a retreat in ICA—which was around 3 days max XD

2. Did you keep your new years’ resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
— I did keep some of my New Year’s resolutions, but I failed to keep some of them XD And yes, I shall make more resolutions for next year [it helps, y’know :P]

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
— Uh, no.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
— No…

5. What countries did you visit?
— I went to Singapore and Malaysia during Summer. For the rest of the year, I’ve been stuck in the Philippines [not that I’m complaining].

6. What would you like to have in 2007 that you lacked in 2006?
— Better time management, more determination and passion, and a shot at the Dean’s List. :3

7. What date from 2006 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
June 13-15, 2006: OrSem 2006. 3 days filled with joy, laughter, sweat, and tears. Being a TnT this year was well worth it.
October 23-27, 2006: ASLA. Need I say more?
For both occasions, all I can say is, “Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine I could fall in love with so many people—-all at the same time.” My fellow TnTs and ASLAns made the ride worth the while. :3

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
— Mostly org work [projects that I’ve been handling]:

  1. Passing the ITM Diagnostic Exam for the first time around. (Feb. 1, 2006)
  2. Comm&Pub Night for the biggest percentage turnout.(July 28, 2006)
  3. AMA Mall: Apparently, we earned about PXXX,000 from it. Yay for Bobby, Diana, and AMA Mall PDs [AL, Di, Han, Jal, and Wes], we did it! (Nov. 20-24, 2006)
  4. Learning how to “operate” Textpattern. Yay to Vinny for being the best TXP mentor EVAH [!] and for being [surprisingly—haha just kidding] UBER patient with me :3
  5. The Ateneo-Celadon website

9. What was your biggest failure?
— Not taking my Calculus and Accounting subjects seriously. Failing to spend more time with blockmates by detaching myself from them.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
— Yes. I sprained my ankle during running class. Careless, clumsy me. Tsk. Tsk.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
FOOD. Oh, glorious food! :3

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
— I kinda agree with Sam. I think everyone who’s laid out his/her heart on the line; who’s took risks to make things happen; who’s dreamed, believed, and made his/her dreams realities; and, who’s made the most of his/her life needs to be merited this year.

13. Whose behaviour appalled you and made you depressed?
— Inconsiderate/insensitive oafs and big-time jerks from a species called “men”.

14. Where did most of your money go?
— On food. Starbucks. Tons and tons of photocopied material for class. Christmas presents and presents for myself (whenever I’d feel like shopping :3)

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
ASLA and OrSem

16. What song/s will always remind you of 2006?
— “Narda” by Kamikazee, “How To Save a Life” by The Fray, High School Musical songs.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? – happier
ii. thinner or fatter? – thinner. :P [Thank you running class and Sir Lem!]
iii. richer or poorer? – poorer. I spent most of my munnies on cellphone load [damn you, UNLIMITXT XD] and my unusual cravings for food [and chocolates! :3].

18. What do you wish you’d done more of?
— Saving money for the rainy days, praying, spending quality time with the people I care about [and not be so absorbed with work], studying harder, and finding time to sit down and read a good book [any recommendations?]

19. What do you wish you’d done less of?
— Spending impulsively, idle moments when I should’ve been studying, and cramming.

20. How will you be welcoming the New Year?
— With the traditional family reunion at my grandparents’ house—with lots of food, presents, food, sing-alongs, and more food!:P

21. Did you fall in love in 2006?
— Yes, I have. I fell in love with my fellow TnTs and ASLAns for their passion and commitment; I fell in love with my blockmates who gave me nothing but constant joy and laughter; I fell in love with Celadon, who, out of all my organizations, made me feel like I belonged in MVP202 XD; but most of all, I fell in love with life…and with YOU.

22. How many one-night stands?
— None. Do I look like someone who’s had a one-night stand? O_o

23. What was your favourite TV program?
— Grey’s Anatomy

24. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?
— Nope. Probably just annoyed, but not hate. :3 Hate is such a strong word—forgive and forget lest you want to have wrinkles on your forehead :D

25. What was the best book you read?
— “Romancing Science”. haha I’m kidding. I guess it’d have to be “The Notebook” by Nicholas Sparks or “The Five People You Meet In Heaven” by Mitch Albom. [Gosh, I really need to keep up and read more books. Any recommendations? XD]

26. What was your greatest musical discovery?
— This year? It would have to be my love for world music—OPM, Japanese, Chinese, French, Italian, Spanish, etc. Who knew my taste in music could be so diverse? :P

27. What did you want and get?
— The chance to be a TnT and project manager/director/editor for my various orgs. Success in my org projects [I wish I could say the same for my academic life XD]

28. What did you want and not get?
— World peace. haha XD I’m serious!!! Oh, and Josh Groban’s “Awake” CD XDDD

29. Favorite film of this year?
— I just finished watching “Mano Po 5: Gua Ai Di”, and it was kinda nice—if you’re interested in typical sappy love films. Not my favorite film though. I dunno…I don’t really have a favorite film for this year. Maybe next year :)

30. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
— I turned 19 and spent my day in school, advancing my untis and attending summer classes [AL, you nerd! XD]

31. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
— My parents giving me more freedom to go on block outings [Tarlac, anyone?XD] and stuff like that.

32. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2006?
— It’s still the same. You can never go wrong with jeans and shirt and rubber shoes [courtesy of the SOM dress code].

33. What kept you sane?
— Insane moments with friends, silent moments at the college chapel, blogging, my creative journal, YM, UNLIMITXT, family, and lenient professors XD

34. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
— Doctor Burke. wahahaha XDDD

35. Who is your real-person crush?
— Tough one XD My real-person crush? Ehrm…I shall not name names, but just so that you know, I’ve liked him ever since my freshie year [it’s been nearly a year ago]; hence, my favorite movie quote as of now, “You had me at hello.” Spread the cheesiness, people of the world! :P

36. What political issue stirred you the most?
— Every single selfish/self-serving act made by government officials irks me.

37. Who did you miss?
— My high school friends and high school days in ICA.

38. Who was the best new person you met?
— My Celadon family. ♥

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2006
— If it’s not meant to be, don’t force it—cry a river, build a bridge, and get over it. Never expect too much, because in the process, you may only end up hurting yourself. The best things are always the unexpected gestures.

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year

All that you see is me
And all I truly believe

That I was born to try
I’ve learned to love
Be understanding
And believe in life
But you’ve got to make choices
Be wrong or right
Sometimes you’ve got to sacrifice the things you like

But I was born to try

No point in talking what you should have been
And regretting the things that went on
Life’s full of mistakes, destinies and fate
Remove the clouds look at the bigger picture

And all that you see is me

—Delta Goodrem, Born To Try

41. Rate the year 2006 in a scale of 10.
— 8. It was a whole lot better than last year, albeit!

In a nutshell:

2006: I quote Sam, “LIFE HAPPENED.” It was one of my best teen years—all the drama, heartache, laughter, and joy. 2006 was a blast, and I owe it all to everyone who became a part of my life this year [Awww]
as for next year:
2007: BRING IT ON.

I shall post my New Year’s resolutions soon. hihihihi ;))
