R.I.P., Ka Bel!
I was on my way home when I heard about the news of Anakpawis‘ Representative Crispin Beltran’s tragic death. It was sad to see him go (since he was definitely one of those most notable figures in contemporary Philippine history), but what made me even sadder was learning that he died a humble and honest man, the poorest of the 238 members of the 14th Philippine Congress with a net worth of 50,000php and 2 barongs, shirts, and eyeglasses listed as assets.
He seemed like a simple man with great love for country. For years he lived a humble life in a humble home (compared with his fellow congressmen who lived lavish lifestyles using the nation’s money) and fought for things he truly believed in. If only all our politicians were to have the same passion, selflessness, and commitment he had as a national leader, our country would definitely become a better place.
Rest in peace, Ka Bel! You will definitely be missed. :(
